How to measure a four-poster bed for a canopy
The poster-bed canopy formula A + A + B, a worked example, and the measurements to send for a made-to-measure tulle canopy.
Written by the Olyo team. Updated .

Measure A, the height of a post from the floor to the top rail, B, the width across the top between two posts, and X, the length of the side. The canopy length is A + A + B: for example 200 + 200 + 100 = 500 cm. Send A, B and X with your order.
The measurements
Measure the outside of the frame in centimetres.
| Mark | What to measure |
|---|---|
| A | Height of a post, from the floor to the top rail |
| B | Width across the top, between the two posts at the head or foot end |
| X | Length of the side, from post to post |
The length formula
Canopy length = A + A + B: the tulle runs down both posts and across the top between them.
| Example | Calculation | Canopy length |
|---|---|---|
| From our size chart | 200 cm + 200 cm + 100 cm | 500 cm |
Check the rails
Tell us whether the top rails are flat, round or have finials on the posts, and send a photo. This decides how the canopy is attached and finished at the corners.
Standard or Premium
Both poster-bed models are made to measure in the same way. Compare them on our comparison page and choose by look and colour.
