Importing kids’ textiles into the UK from Turkey
What a UK retailer or online seller needs to import kids’ canopies, play tents and textiles from Turkey: EORI, the UK–Turkey trade agreement, toy and textile rules, and labels.
Written by the Olyo team. Updated .

A UK importer needs an EORI number, a customs declaration and the product’s commodity code. Goods that meet the UK–Turkey trade agreement’s rules of origin can qualify for preferential duty with an origin statement. Toys must meet the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011, and textiles must show fibre composition.
Customs basics
To bring goods into Great Britain you need an EORI number starting with GB. The commodity code of each product decides the duty rate and any controls. Import VAT is charged on most goods. A customs broker or your courier can make the declaration for you.
The UK–Turkey trade agreement
The UK and Turkey have a free trade agreement. Goods that meet its product-specific rules of origin can be imported at a preferential rate of duty. Preference is claimed with an origin declaration on the invoice or another commercial document, rather than the A.TR certificate used for the EU. Ask your supplier to include the origin statement when the goods qualify.
Product rules buyers ask about
| Topic | Applies to | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 | Products for play by children under 14, such as play tents and playhouses | Safety requirements, conformity marking, and importer identification on the product |
| Textile Products (Labelling and Fibre Composition) Regulations 2012 | Textile products | Fibre composition shown on the label |
| General product safety | All consumer products | Products must be safe; importers have duties too |
Labels and your details
As the importer of toys into Great Britain, your name and address must appear on the product or its packaging or documents. Send your details with the order so we include them on labels.

This guide is a practical overview, not legal or customs advice. Rules depend on the exact product and its customs code and they change, so confirm the current position with the official sources below, your customs broker or a compliance adviser.
Questions
Do I need an A.TR certificate for the UK?
No. The A.TR certificate is for the EU–Turkey customs union. For the UK, preference under the UK–Turkey agreement is claimed with an origin declaration on a commercial document.
Which marking does a play tent need in Great Britain?
Toys placed on the GB market must show the conformity marking required by the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Check the current UK guidance on UKCA and CE marking for toys before you order labels.
