Tulle vs cotton in kids’ room textiles
Why canopies are made from tulle and tents, playhouses and bed curtains from woven cotton, and how to choose for a custom product.
Written by the Olyo team. Updated .

Use tulle where a textile should drape, gather and let light through: canopies over beds and reading corners. Use woven cotton where a textile must hold its shape, take embroidery or print, and survive play: tent and playhouse covers, bed curtains and wall-canopy bodies.
Side by side
| Tulle | Woven cotton | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Open net | Closed weave |
| Weight | Very light | Light to heavy, by product |
| Light | Lets light through | Blocks or filters light |
| Decoration | Gathers, ruffles, pom-poms | Print, appliqué, embroidery |
| In our range | All canopies | Tents, playhouses, Kura curtains, half-round canopy body |
Combining both
Our half-round wall canopy pairs a 100% cotton body with 100% polyester tulle. Combining the two gives a custom product both structure and softness.
